The FJ40 was produced by Toyota between '60 to '84 and all the way up to '01 in Brazil. It was Toyota's best-selling model in the states between 1961-1964 and by 1965 global production had reached 50,000 units. Available in hardtop, soft top, station wagon or pickup form. With the 'F' standing for the Type F engine and the J standing for Jeep. The '40' refers to the displacement of the inline-six engine, in '65 Toyota's technical director, Hanji Umehara decided to call the truck the 'Land Cruiser'. The Land Cruiser quickly solidified the brand's reputation for building strong, reliable vehicles. was a big step up from the predecessor, the 'J20' with its new low range sub gear that improved acceleration and performance on rough roads. A movement of the 2-speed transfer and 3-speed shift lever made room for a third person to sit up front, along with folding jump seats fitted in the rear for more cargo/passenger room. This example has been imported to the UK from Ireland in 2014 & then to the UAE and was given extensive restoration - it's simply gorgeous and ready for its next off-road adventure. Everything about the FJ40 is fit for purpose, straightforward, and built to last finished in a period safari coloured beige. Finished in mean-looking black alloys all around, with the front wheels fitted with locking hubs which will convert the car to 2WD, saving some fuel on longer journeys. The coverage of the beige paint is very good and finished to a very high level with a deep shine and lustre across each panel, giving this SWB 4x4 a safari type look and feel. The colour is from the 1973 palette that was available. Along with the exterior, the seats have also been given the attention they deserve. The seats are in excellent condition with very little signs of use since the restoration. Great lengths to re-upholster the seats in as close a colour and material match as it would have left the factory.
