The Porsche Passion Begins

Christian and Ortrun’s love for Porsche started in very different ways. Growing up in Bavaria, Christian was captivated by the 911 Turbo as a child, visiting the Frankfurt Motor Show year after year to admire the evolution of the 911. Meanwhile, Ortrun, who was raised in East Germany, never saw a Porsche in person during her early years. But after finding a toy Porsche as a child, she made a promise to herself: “One day, I will own this car.”

Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Ortrun was finally able to fulfill her dream, purchasing her first 911 and later joining a Porsche Club—where she met Christian. Their shared passion for road trips and Porsche ownership led them to an unusual but exhilarating tradition: driving separate Porsche 911s on every journey.

Exploring the World – One Porsche Each

Since 2010, the couple has driven thousands of kilometers together—but always in separate cars. “From the very beginning, we have always driven together in two cars,” explains Christian. “There was never an option to take just one.”

Their adventures began across Germany and Europe, where they met like-minded enthusiasts. But their desire to explore led them to an even greater challenge: road-tripping across the United States with their own Porsche 911s.

Bringing Their Own 911s to America

In 2020, the Hartingers decided to attend the Porsche Club of America’s (PCA) Porsche Parade in Palm Springs. Instead of renting cars, Ortrun insisted that they ship their own 911 GT3 RS (997) models from Germany to Florida. What followed was an epic road trip across the southern U.S., covering legendary locations like Pikes Peak, Monument Valley, and the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Even with delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple managed to drive 29,000 kilometers through the U.S., connecting with the Porsche community and experiencing some of the best driving roads in the world.

A Second and Third Road Trip – More Porsches, More Adventures

By 2023, the couple was back in the U.S., this time swapping one GT3 RS for a rare Jade Green 911 Speedster (991). Their adventures took them through Monterey Car Week, Rennsport Reunion 7 at Laguna Seca, and Pikes Peak once again.

The journey continued into 2024 with another remarkable Porsche: a 911 Turbo Targa, which underwent a full restoration at Porsche Classic as part of the Sonderwunsch program. Painted in Amazon Green Metallic with a Lemon Yellow interior, it became a true one-of-a-kind car.

The Porsche Community: A Family on the Road

What makes these road trips special isn’t just the incredible landscapes and legendary roads—it’s the Porsche enthusiasts they meet along the way.

“The Porsche community in America feels like a family,” Christian explains. “And this is the reason we didn’t stop after one road trip… or two… or three.”

At every stop, the Hartingers were welcomed by fellow Porsche owners, often receiving offers to stay at their homes—even from strangers. Their experience highlights how Porsche ownership is more than just about cars; it’s about people, friendships, and shared passion.
