Polestar Launches Campaign at Climate Week NYC to Expose the “Toxic Relationship” with Gasoline Cars
Dubai, UAE, 22 September 2025 – Polestar (Nasdaq: PSNY), the electric performance brand, is making waves at Climate Week NYC 2025 with a bold campaign designed to confront one of the most overlooked but harmful relationships in modern life: our dependence on gasoline cars.
The campaign, which launches today across New York City and social media platforms, uses provocative messaging to spark conversation. Posters feature sharp lines like “Dinosaur juice addict?” and “Is it your dad’s fault?”, alongside a hotline number — 1(888)260-1596 — that offers callers facts on the dangers of fossil fuels and information about cleaner alternatives.
Challenging an Industry Backslide
While many traditional automakers are slowing down or even reversing their climate commitments, Polestar is doubling down.
“As many traditional car companies are back-tracking on their climate promises, we are doing the opposite,” said Fredrika Klarén, Polestar’s Head of Sustainability, who will speak at the flagship panel ‘The Challenge, the Change and the Tech’. “Polestar is committed to emission-free mobility, and we will continue to highlight the urgent need for an accelerated shift from combustion engine cars to electric ones – the most efficient and scalable alternative solution if we want our industry to do its part to reduce climate change.”
Why Cities Matter Most
Few places make the costs of gasoline cars clearer than big cities. In Manhattan alone, over half a million vehicles enter the city’s core daily, contributing to pollution, noise, and declining air quality. Polestar argues that a shift toward electric mobility could dramatically improve urban life while cutting emissions.
The company’s presence at Climate Week NYC builds on its leadership in sustainability. Among its standout projects is the Polestar 0 initiative, an ambitious moonshot to deliver the world’s first truly climate-neutral car — without relying on offsets. More recently, the Polestar 5 performance GT was unveiled, showcasing the brand’s design and sustainability ambitions. The vehicle uses 83% aluminum from smelters powered by renewable electricity and 13% recycled aluminum, proving that performance and sustainability can coexist.
The Case for Urgent Change
Polestar’s campaign highlights some sobering statistics that show just how much is at stake:
- 73% fewer CO2 emissions: A battery electric car, when charged on Europe’s projected 2025–2044 energy mix, emits about 73% less CO?e over its lifetime compared to a gasoline car.
- 25% of global oil use: Fuel for private cars and vans accounts for more than a quarter of the world’s oil consumption.
- 15% of global emissions: Road transport is responsible for over 15% of global energy-related emissions .
- Slow adoption: Despite progress, EVs made up just 20% of new car sales worldwide in 2024.
Looking Ahead
“At Climate Week NYC, we will challenge industry, policymakers, and consumers to move beyond outdated technologies and accelerate the shift to clean mobility,” Klarén concluded.
Through its bold messaging and sustainability-first strategy, Polestar is not just promoting its own brand — it is actively pushing the global auto industry to confront uncomfortable truths and commit to a cleaner future.
