Bentley EXP 15 Makes Public Debut at Monterey Car Week
Bentley Motors unveiled its latest design vision, the EXP 15, at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week. Though not intended for production, this striking grand tourer concept showcases the brand’s evolving design language and offers a glimpse of Bentley’s future – including its first fully electric car.
A Tribute to Bentley Heritage
The EXP 15 carries echoes of the legendary 1930 Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting Sportsman Coupé, famously known as the “Blue Train.” Like its predecessor from nearly a century ago, EXP 15 features a long ‘endless’ bonnet, upright grille, and a cabin positioned rearward for a commanding presence.
One of its standout elements is the three-seat configuration, designed to enhance passenger luxury while integrating clever in-cabin storage for hand luggage or even cherished pets – a nod to modern lifestyles fused with timeless Bentley comfort.
Five Principles of Design
The EXP 15 introduces five design principles that will shape the future of Bentley’s electrified grand tourers:
- Upright Elegance – A front fender profile that exudes stature and presence.
- Iconic Grille – A reimagining of Bentley’s famed grille for the electric era.
- Endless Bonnet Line – A seamless design that connects past and future.
- Resting Beast – A sculpted, muscular language that suggests power even at rest.
- Prestigious Shield – A rear-panel design framing the new interpretation of Bentley’s iconic Winged B emblem.
Together, these elements set the stage for Bentley’s sustainable and luxurious design evolution.
Resonating with Enthusiasts
Robin Page, Bentley’s Director of Design, emphasized the importance of revealing EXP 15 at Monterey Car Week:
“The visitors include some of the most discerning collectors and enthusiasts in the world, many of whom already own Bentleys. EXP 15 is a strong statement of intent, and it was outstanding to see the concept resplendent in the California sunshine. Feedback received at Pebble Beach will help inform Bentley’s design journey as we move toward our next generation of electrified grand tourers.”
A Reunion with the Blue Train
In a symbolic moment, the EXP 15 was photographed alongside the original 1930 Speed Six “Blue Train” Special, both brought from Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe. This reunion highlighted the brand’s commitment to honoring its past while pushing forward with innovation.
The Future in Crewe
Following its debut, the EXP 15 has returned to Crewe, where it will inspire and inform Bentley’s upcoming models. Development is underway at the newly opened three-storey Design Studio, the hub of the brand’s next chapter in electrified luxury performance.
The EXP 15 may not enter production, but its influence will resonate across Bentley’s portfolio as the marque transitions toward a bold, sustainable future.
