The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the pinnacle of endurance racing and stands as a testament to engineering excellence, driver skill, and automotive endurance. Porsche holds an unmatched record at Le Mans, boasting 19 overall victories and 112 class wins, making it the most successful manufacturer in the history of the event.
This year, the Porsche Penske Motorsport factory team made a strong appearance with three Porsche 963 hybrid prototypes competing in the premier LMDh category. Each of these cutting-edge race cars was meticulously prepared at Porsche’s Mannheim facility, marking a new era in the brand’s racing development.
The driver lineup included Formula E World Champion Pascal Wehrlein, who joined Porsche’s regular roster from the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Additionally, customer team Proton Competition fielded their own Porsche 963, while Team Manthey defended their LMGT3 class title with three Porsche 911 GT3 R entries.

The 2024 race was intensely competitive, with the #6 Porsche 963 driven by Matt Campbell, Kévin Estre, and Laurens Vanthoor finishing second overall, just 14.084 seconds behind Ferrari after a thrilling 24-hour battle. The other two factory Porsche 963 cars finished in seventh and ninth positions, demonstrating the car’s exceptional durability and speed.
In the LMGT3 category, Team Manthey celebrated a consecutive class victory with the Porsche 911 GT3 R, further cementing Porsche’s reputation for producing some of the world’s most successful and enduring race cars.
The Porsche 963 continues the brand’s rich legacy of legendary Le Mans machines, following in the footsteps of icons such as the 917, 936, 956, 962, 911 GT1, and the 919 Hybrid.
