Polestar Announces 2024 Design Contest 'Hot Wheels' Winner
Polestar, the renowned Swedish electric performance car manufacturer, has crowned the winner of its 2024 Design Contest. Partnering with iconic toy car brand Hot Wheels, the contest challenged participants to create innovative designs reflecting the essence of Polestar’s sleek, minimalistic aesthetic and Hot Wheels' vibrant creativity.
Shashank Shekhar from India claimed the top spot with his bold ‘Polestar TRX,’ an off-roader showcasing exaggerated proportions and elegant design. The TRX not only highlights Polestar’s future-facing style but also becomes the first Polestar design to feature in the Hot Wheels die-cast car lineup, set for release in summer 2025.
Hot Wheels, synonymous with boundary-pushing automotive innovation for over five decades, lent its dynamic philosophy to this collaboration. Contestants were inspired to combine Polestar’s contemporary minimalism with the playful and daring character of Hot Wheels.
The runner-up prize went to Powei Chen from Italy for his retro-futuristic ‘Cyber Shaker,’ while Germany’s Roman Moor received an honorable mention for his ‘Polestar Track Toy’ concept, reminiscent of classic Le Mans racers.
The contest, now in its fourth edition, has grown into a global showcase for both professional and aspiring designers. It serves as a platform for fresh talent, with previous winners and participants often securing positions within Polestar or the wider automotive design industry.
Juan-Pablo Bernal, Polestar’s Head of Interior Design, praised this year’s entries:
“We saw designs that truly captured the essence of both brands. I’m excited to see the ‘Polestar TRX’ take shape as a collectible.”
With over 1,200 entries worldwide, the 2024 edition marked one of the most successful contests yet. Hot Wheels’ Ted Wu added:
“The winning design bridges the creative worlds of Polestar and Hot Wheels. We’re thrilled to welcome the TRX into Hot Wheels history.”
