Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon Puts High-Tech, Race-Derived Construction on Full Display
Laguna Seca Raceway, USA — Ford has unveiled the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, a striking new trim in the Mustang GTD lineup that brings the raw beauty and functionality of exposed carbon fiber to the forefront. Debuting at the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway, the model showcases how race-derived lightweight construction enhances both performance and design.
Race-Inspired Carbon Fiber Construction
The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon draws directly from motorsport, where carbon fiber is the material of choice in series like IMSA. Inspired by the Mustang GT3 race car, the GTD Liquid Carbon skips the paint booth, leaving the meticulously aligned carbon weave fully visible. This is more than an aesthetic decision—it’s performance-driven. Replacing sheet metal doors with bonded carbon-fiber panels and eliminating paint reduces weight by about 13 pounds compared to the Mustang GTD Carbon Series equipped with the Performance package.
“Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD’s high-tech, high-performance construction and is a reminder of the race-derived, cutting-edge capability that sits beneath the surface of every Mustang GTD,” said Greg Goodall, Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer.
Perfectly Aligned Carbon-Fiber Precision
Ford’s craftsmanship is on full display. The hood, roof, rear deck, and wing feature carbon weaves that align perfectly down the car’s centerline, while the fenders and side panels match the dorsal design elements. The cohesive pattern enhances the sleek, aerodynamic presence of the GTD.
The Liquid Carbon edition also introduces a unique black Brembo brake caliper, gloss-black GTD script, and an anodized body finish, emphasizing its race-ready character. As with the Spirit of America edition, the Performance package comes standard, ensuring track-optimized capability.
“High performance requires high precision. When we were designing Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, it was essential that these small details were present, because they speak to the care and attention required to both build a vehicle like Mustang GTD and to compete and win on the world’s stage with Mustang GT3,” added Anthony Colard, Mustang GTD Design Manager.
A Bold, Focused Interior
Inside, the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon balances luxury and performance. The cabin features black leather with Dinamica microfiber suede, highlighted by Hyper Lime stitching across the seats, door panels, console, instrument panel, and steering wheel. A reflective center gradient on the seats adds a vibrant, performance-oriented flair.
Expanding the GTD Family
With the introduction of the Liquid Carbon trim, Mustang GTD buyers now have four unique options: the standard model, Spirit of America, Carbon Series, and the new Liquid Carbon. This expansion allows owners to choose the exact balance of exposed carbon fiber and design expression to suit their vision.
The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is not just about aesthetics—it’s a bold reminder that Ford’s halo performance Mustang is engineered with the same cutting-edge principles that dominate the racetrack.
