McLaren Project: Endurance Unveils Triple Crown-Inspired Livery at Monterey Car Week
McLaren has once again captured the spotlight at Monterey Car Week with the debut of a striking new livery for its Project: Endurance customer program. Presented during an exclusive private event for depositors and prospective buyers, the Le Mans Hypercar took center stage in a design that pays homage to one of McLaren’s earliest and most iconic victories.
The unveiling was hosted by motorsport royalty, including McLaren Group Holdings CEO Nick Collins, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown, and racing legend Justin Bell—who himself stood on the podium at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans in the #51 McLaren F1 GTR.
A Tribute to McLaren’s Triple Crown Legacy
The livery draws direct inspiration from McLaren’s 1974 Indianapolis 500-winning M16, driven by Texan Johnny Rutherford, famously known as “Lone Star JR.” Finished in the signature McLaren Orange with a bold dark blue center stripe and adorned with a lone white star on the cockpit roof, the design echoes Rutherford’s helmet and celebrates McLaren’s first Triple Crown triumph.
Other details include Rutherford’s race number 3, alongside McLaren’s iconic Speedy Kiwi and Speedmark logos—a vivid reminder of the brand’s unmatched heritage in global motorsport.
The Road to the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship
First revealed during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the McLaren Le Mans Hypercar will make its competitive debut in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The goal? To once again secure motorsport’s elusive Triple Crown—this time aiming to achieve the feat in a single season, a challenge no manufacturer has accomplished before.
Project: Endurance – More Than Just Ownership
Beyond the car itself, Project: Endurance offers an experience unlike any other. Owners will not only possess a rare McLaren Le Mans Hypercar, but also gain behind-the-scenes access to the brand’s elite WEC program. This includes direct interaction with race engineers, team personnel, and professional drivers, as well as a two-year McLaren customer track program.
Each owner will receive professional driver coaching, supported by their own pit crew and race engineers, while experiencing legendary circuits worldwide. This program ensures participants not only drive their hypercar but also learn to master it—pushing performance limits at the very pinnacle of motorsport.
“The opportunity to be one of only a few to own this Le Mans Hypercar and be directly involved in the development and testing program is a very special proposition. We’re looking forward to showcasing Project: Endurance, with a livery tied specifically to our motorsports heritage in the US, to Americas customers and prospects throughout August,”
— Nick Collins, CEO, McLaren Group Holdings
A Vision of Motorsport’s Future
McLaren’s Project: Endurance is more than just a customer program—it’s a bridge between heritage and innovation, uniting fans and owners with the heart of endurance racing. With its Triple Crown-inspired livery, the hypercar not only celebrates McLaren’s storied past but also sets the stage for an ambitious future.
