Volkswagen's renowned Tiguan, hailed as the most successful model in the Volkswagen lineup with an annual production exceeding half a million units, is now introducing its latest iteration to VW dealerships. Coinciding with its European market debut, the Tiguan is now available with plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid) offering two power outputs: 150 kW and 200 kW. Building on the success of Tiguan models equipped with efficient 48V mild hybrid drives (eTSI) and turbodiesel engines (TDI) since September 2023, the introduction of the Tiguan eHybrid marks a significant step forward in Volkswagen's commitment to electrification.
Pre-sales of the Tiguan eHybrid have commenced, featuring plug-in hybrid drives meticulously designed by Volkswagen to deliver impressive system power of 150 kW (204 PS) and 200 kW (272 PS). Enhanced by a battery with a capacity of 19.7 kWh (net), the electric range has nearly doubled compared to its predecessor. With electric ranges of up to approximately 120 km on a single battery charge, the Tiguan eHybrid models seamlessly integrate electric mobility into everyday life. Moreover, the hybrid model boasts remarkable efficiency on long journeys, with combined ranges exceeding 900 km, thanks to the combination of an 85 kW electric drive motor and the new 1.5-liter TSI engine (110 kW or 130 kW). Charging the battery has also been expedited, with the capability to charge up to 11 kW at a domestic socket or wall box, and up to 50 kW at DC quick-charging stations on the go.
In addition to its advanced hybrid drivetrain, the new Tiguan offers premium-class technologies tailored for the mid-sized SUV segment. The interior is characterized by a new digital cockpit featuring intuitive operation and the innovative IDA voice assistant, which enables natural language control of various vehicle and infotainment functions. Enhanced park assist systems facilitate fully automatic parking maneuvers, including parking into and out of spaces over a distance of up to 50 meters, as well as remote-controlled parking via smartphone. The Tiguan also debuts new adaptive running gear (DCC Pro) for optimized comfort and dynamics, along with exclusive features such as pneumatic massage function for the front seats and IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights derived from the Touareg premium-class model.
Even in its standard trim, the Tiguan offers an impressive array of features, including digital instruments, a 32.8-cm (12.9-inch) infotainment system, Car2X warning system, one-zone Climatronic, USB-C ports, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems. LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and various safety features such as Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist, and Rear View camera system are also standard. Additionally, three optional equipment lines – Life, Elegance, and R-Line – provide further customization options to cater to individual preferences and lifestyles.
