Chevrolet has taken a bold step toward the future of motorsports by revealing the Blazer EV.R NASCAR prototype ahead of the DAYTONA 500. A Glimpse into the Future of NASCAR

While Chevrolet’s V8 engines continue to dominate the NASCAR circuit, the introduction of the Blazer EV.R demonstrates the brand’s ongoing investment in power, efficiency, and sustainability. According to Eric Warren, Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition for General Motors, this prototype is part of a broader strategy to transfer race-developed technologies into Chevrolet’s expanding lineup of EVs.

The Blazer EV.R is powered by:

• Three six-phase electric motors producing a staggering 1,300 horsepower
• A 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery
• Motors that rev up to 15,000 rpm instantly
• All-wheel drive system with programmable settings

This advanced powertrain not only allows instant acceleration but also provides critical insights into how EV performance can be optimized for the road and the track.

Design Inspired by the Blazer EV SS

Chevrolet’s motorsports engineers collaborated with GM Design to create an aerodynamic body that merges race-ready technology with Blazer EV SS-inspired styling. The result? A lower, wider stance designed for superior handling and downforce.

“The Blazer EV.R prototype brings forward the design language of the Blazer EV SS while focusing on aerodynamics and performance,” said Phil Zak, Executive Director of Chevrolet Global Design.

Built on NASCAR’s Next Gen chassis, the Blazer EV.R also features Goodyear Racing Eagle tires, tested extensively at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina.

NASCAR and Chevrolet: A Partnership for Innovation

Chevrolet’s involvement in NASCAR goes beyond racing—it’s about pushing boundaries in engineering and technology. Brandon Thomas, NASCAR VP of Vehicle Design, highlighted that the Blazer EV.R is a result of close collaboration between Chevrolet, NASCAR, and other manufacturers to explore emerging technologies in motorsports.

During testing, Justin Allgaier, the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion, put the Blazer EV.R through its paces, learning to adapt to the unique handling characteristics of electric race cars, including strategic adjustments to regenerative braking.

Blazer EV SS to Pace the 67th DAYTONA 500

Adding to the excitement, Chevrolet will also pace the DAYTONA 500 with the Blazer EV SS—a high-performance 615-horsepower SUV capable of 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. This marks a historic moment, as the quickest SS model Chevrolet has ever produced takes center stage at one of motorsport’s biggest events.
