Bentley Introduces ‘Ombre by Mulliner’ for the Ultimate Paint Finish
Crewe, England – Bentley Motors has unveiled a breathtaking new one-off personal commission: Ombre by Mulliner, one of the most complex and visually stunning paint finishes ever applied to a Bentley. Developed by hand at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, this innovative technique transitions smoothly between two colours across the length of the car, creating a mesmerising visual effect that is both unique and exclusive.
This new process is now available to order in three different colour combinations through Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke division, allowing customers to personalise their cars like never before.
The Art of Ombre: Handcrafted Perfection
The Ombre finish begins with the car being sprayed in contrasting colours at the front and rear. The blending process is then applied in multiple stages using traditionally tinted paint to create a gradual fade. Achieving the perfect ombre effect requires meticulous skill: two expert paint technicians spend approximately 56 hours carefully blending the colours, reacting in real time to how each layer behaves. Each car emerges as a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, ensuring a flawless transition visible to the naked eye.
Due to the complexity of combining paints, the available colour pairings are carefully curated by Mulliner to guarantee a consistent, visually stunning fade. This means every Ombre Bentley is unique, yet perfectly balanced in appearance.
First Model: Continental GT Speed
The first car to feature the Ombre technique is a new Continental GT Speed, revealed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, part of Monterey Car Week. This exceptional car fades from Topaz at the front to Windsor Blue at the rear. The effect is most striking along the centre section, with the angle of the fade following the rear haunch line. Even the 22” ten-spoke swept wheels match the body panels they sit within, creating a harmonious and elegant overall appearance.
Interior: A Harmonious Fade
The Ombre effect is extended into the cabin, curated by Mulliner’s Bespoke Studio. The front of the interior features Topaz hide on the seats, steering wheel, and instrument panel, gradually fading into the darker Beluga leather at the rear. Additional highlights include Dragonfly accent piping and stitching, providing subtle yet exquisite details.
Other surfaces embrace a tactile approach with Satin Beluga painted veneers on the centre console, instrument panel, and treadplate carriers, enhancing the sense of craftsmanship when doors are opened. The cabin also features Bentley’s Rotating Display, the Naim for Bentley audio system, and the Dark Chrome Interior Specification from the fourth-generation Continental GT.
Availability and Personalisation
Following its debut as a personal commission at Monterey Car Week, the Ombre by Mulliner paint finish is now available for order globally. Customers can choose from three curated fade combinations, ensuring their Bentley is a unique expression of style and craftsmanship.
The Ombre finish reinforces Bentley’s reputation for blending cutting-edge innovation with traditional craftsmanship, offering an unrivalled level of visual and tactile sophistication.
